Start with What You Know

When it comes to starting an internet business, it helps if you begin by focusing on what you know. When I set out to start my online business, I had all kinds of ideas. Many of them brought me pretty far outside my comfort zone and didn’t leverage my experience.

The truth is, success online starts with your experiences in life. If you pay attention, you will find that your life is filled with businesses waiting to happen!  It all has to do with knowing who you are and what you have to offer.  Here’s more information about this:

What do I Know?

Here’s a look at

  • Writing – Skills honed from a writing career that spans over two decades. I can write eBooks, product copy, website content, articles, and more.
  • Digital Marketing – I work at a digital marketing agency for my day job, and I can easily leverage this experience into my own internet business.
  • Knowledge – I have a vast array on knowledge on all kinds of topics, most of which were developed from my life experiences.

After agonizing for months about what kind of business I should start, I realized that I needed to focus on leveraging what I know. When I did that, it felt like the floodgates opened up. I suddenly felt inspired and energized to work, rather than stuck and blocked, which is what happened when I tried to step too far out of my comfort zone.

What Do You Know?

You can leverage this idea for yourself, as well. If you are stumped for which online business to start with, you should begin by thinking about what you know, just like I did. Here are some questions to ask:

  • What special or unique skills do you have? Do you know how to write? Create websites? Market a business online with great results? These are all skills that can be used to form the basis of your business.
  • What “problems” do you have? (Examples: need to lose weight, get out of debt, get divorced, cook health meals at home, etc). All of those concerns can be turned into businesses. Your business will provide the solution.
  • What topics do you know about? Do you have a hobby or an area of interest that has a high demand? If so, you can use your experience to create training materials on how to do it.  You can help people with your knowledge.

Leveraging what you know helps you gain momentum quickly. You eliminate the learning curve needed, or at least greatly reduce it. This enables you to make real progress on your business much faster than if you were to start a business from scratch doing something whee you did have a lot to learn before you got started. It’s all about finding the best way to leverage your experience so that you can profit faster.
